Combat Sports - Capoeira

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that is said to have its roots in the fighting techniques of the African peoples who were brought as slaves to Brazil. It differs from other martial arts due to its playful and often acrobatic side. The feet are used extensively during combat, although other parts of the body can be used, mainly the hands, head, knees and elbows. The “players” may adopt a leaning or balancing position on their hands to perform kicks or acrobatics. Capoeira is played and/or fought at different levels of the ground and at different speeds in various forms, and is usually accompanied by instruments, singing and clapping. It wins over a lot of people attracted by its spectacular side, musicality and the energy that is released during the matches.
